Abstract

The article presents the results of scientific and experimental work on the use of granulated blast furnace slag for the production of ceramic paving stones. The research was carried out in the loam-bentonite clay-blast furnace granulated slag raw material system of Arcelor Mitall Temirtau JSC.

According to the results of an analytical review of the works of domestic and foreign scientists, the special relevance of the use of ceramic paving stones in the improvement of recreation parks, alleys, playgrounds, kindergartens, schools, cultural and trade facilities has been established, since they are highly environmentally, durable, resistant to atmospheric influences and have a more aesthetic appearance.

Scientific and experimental work has been carried out on the use of blast-furnace granulated slag of JSC "Arcelor Mitall Temirtau" for the production of ceramic paving stones, as an additive that improves the physical and mechanical properties of the product at the stage of drying and firing. The main regularities of changes in the physical and mechanical properties of ceramic paving stones samples depending on the amount of addition of blast furnace granulated slag at a firing temperature of 10000C are established. It was found that an increase in the amount of the addition of granulated blast furnace slag up to 35% will transfer the ceramic mass into the category of low-sensitivity mixtures. This allows drying of molded samples at an accelerated pace without drying cracks. It was found that with an increase in the amount of granulated slag additive up to 35%, the strength of the samples at a firing temperature of 1000 0C is almost 1.5 times higher than the minimum slag content. According to the results of X-ray phase and electron microscopic analysis, it was found that in the samples burned at a temperature of 1000 ° C, there are porous slag grains crystallized by a low-temperature form of wollastonite (CaSiO3). To a large extent, crystallized slag grains are observed in samples of compositions where the amount of granulated blast furnace slag is 30-35%. It is proved that the presence of wollastonite in the composition of the ceramic mass plays the role of a reinforcing component.

Indeed, it should be noted that high strength indicators are achieved in those compositions where the highest crystallization of wollastonite is in the firing products. As a result of the conducted scientific and experimental work, the expediency of the production of ceramic paving stones in the loam-bentonite - granulated blast furnace slag raw material system meeting the requirements of quality, aesthetics, environmental friendliness, resource and energy conservation has been proved.
