Speech detection and recognition is a classification task that determines if there is a voice in a particular audio segment. This process is an important pre-processing step that can be used to improve the performance of other tasks such as automatic real-time voice detection during an exam. This article provides an overview of methods, libraries for speech detection and recognition. Speech recognition research spans many subject areas such as computer technology, artificial intelligence, digital signal processing, pattern recognition, acoustics, linguistics, and cognitive science. The aim of the study is to develop an online proctoring module that records and transcribes audio streams during the exam.
